Texas needs up to $33 billion in new, improved power lines. Who should foot the bill?

Before committing Texans to pay for a $30B build out of transmission, we urge Texas policymakers to consider options which could reduce that amount. Consumer Regulated Electricity or CRE is one such option. CRE would allow for the creation of new, independent utilities that could build and innovate much faster than is possible in the current sector. CRE would give the new large loads looking to make Texas their home an attractive option to adding to the burdens on ERCOT and the regulated utilities.
