Competing Senate bills try to answer the question, how should Utah power new data centers?
Utah policymakers: Instead of just creating new opportunities for the regulated monopoly utilities, why not create new opportunities for others to enter the space as well? “Consumer Regulated Electricity” or CRE will enable just that. CRE would allow private parties to create new, independent, fast moving, and innovative electric utilities. These “CRE Utilities” would focus on the fast growing and highly uncertain data center demand growth. If a little competition is good, a lot of competition is even better.
